Can dogs be color blind? We need to know that !!

The most important wrong information is; dogs are color blind. This situation isn’t exactly the truth. Because the world of dogs doesn’t consist of black, white and gray as we know it. On the contrary, it is possible to recognize the world of our dogs and the possibilities of seeing our world.

HOW DOES DOGS SEE?

The position of the dogs’ eyes gives them a much wider or narrower visual field. In dogs with a flat face, the optical angle is dark (this angle is approximately 8 °). There are also species that can achieve a wider optical angle. For example, in Spaniel Cocker and Greyhound, the optical angle is approximately 8 ° C.

DOG HAS A VERY WIDE VIEWING ANGLE

The wide viewing angle of the dogs allows them to scan a much larger area. Considering that their behavior is directly related to their viewing angles, they cause different reactions in different environments. It’s a fact that the wide viewing angle provides them with advantages, but from time to time this can turn into a disadvantage. For example, in crowded environments, dogs exhibit a change in behavior, their restlessness is caused by the disturbance of the eyes of a large number of people.

HOW DO DOGS SEE COLORS? ARE DOGS COLOR BLIND?

Rod and cone-shaped cells in the human eye to see a very different and more colors, while in the retina of the dog, the rate of these structures is very limited compared to people. The visual light, the special cells we call photoreceptors, are converted into neural stimulations. This prevents them from perceiving as much color as people. For example, dogs have green and red blindness rather than color blindness. The colors have a lighter brightness than our eyes. It wouldn’t be right for dogs to be color blind.

THEY CAN SEE AT NIGHT

Maybe they aren’t very lucky about their colors and variety, they have the ability to have a much healthier vision at night and in dark or dimly lit environments. Dogs have a very special layer in their eyes to hunt at night. This layer, called Tapedum lucidum, doubles the amount of light that is present in the environment to the retina, reflecting the light that falls behind the eyes. And plus, they can provide a clearer and more comfortable view at night.
